Today's topic is a basic one that fans ask me this time of year… why do NFL Teams bother going through OTAs?
I love this time of year. You get to see things you didn't necessarily expect and certain things you didn't see on film. And that is what changes the fortunes of a lot of NFL teams.
The most significant point of OTAs from a front office team building and, even somewhat from a coaching standpoint, is that you want to see what you have now in the off-season, especially if you are a playoff team. You're not under a deadline to get ready for playing actual contests; you're exploring possibilities.
That is the groundwork in OTAs, which lays down coaching technique, reliability, and relatability. It is critical that you build upon what you start in these weeks in May and early June to be able to bring your rookie class along and build on top of their college careers to chase their potential.
