Biggest games of third quarter of 2024 NFL season
Matchups on Tap as the race for the playoffs heats up
Our quick series looking at the top games of each quarter of the NFL season rolls on as we check out some highlights for Weeks 9-12 of the 2024 NFL season as we enter the second half of action.
Week 9: Houston Texans at New York Jets (Thursday, October 31, 8:15 PM EST, Amazon Prime Video)
When these two teams met last December, the Jets knocked Texans QB C.J. Stroud out of the game with a concussion. Stroud is back and now the Texans have high expectations. They visit Aaron Rodgers and the Jets on Halloween night to kick off Week 9 in a game that should be full of tricks and treats.
Week 9: Miami Dolphins at Buffalo Bills (Sunday, November 3, 1:00 PM EST, CBS)
The season is starting to get knee-deep and all eyes will be on whether the Dolphins can weather the storm this time around. They can quiet the naysayers here in Week 9 with a big road win over the Bills.
Week 9: Jacksonville Jaguars at Philadelphia Eagles (Sunday, November 3, 8:20 PM EST, NBC)
Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson makes his second trip to Philadelphia since being fired after the 2020 season by the Eagles. The Eagles are 1-0 thus far against the coach that led them to a win in Super Bowl LII.
Week 10: New England Patriots at Chicago Bears (Sunday, November 10, 1:00 PM EST, FOX)
Week 10 sees two of the top three picks in the 2024 NFL Draft meet at Soldier Field as Caleb Williams and the Bears host Drake Maye and the Patriots. It’s fair to think Maye will be behind center for the Patriots by this point of the season.
Week 10: Detroit Lions at Houston Texans (Sunday, November 10, 8:20 PM EST, NBC)
Two of 2023’s biggest surprises meet in Houston in primetime in Week 10. A matchup that could be very fun to watch will be Lions WR Amon-Ra St. Brown vs. Texans CB Derek Stingley.
Week 10: Miami Dolphins at Los Angeles Rams (Monday, November 11, 8:15 PM EST, ESPN)
Week 10 wraps up with what could be a shootout between the Dolphins and the Rams. It’s also a reunion, if you will, as Dolphins CB Jalen Ramsey returns to L.A. to face his former team.
Week 11: Green Bay Packers vs. Chicago Bears (Sunday, November 17, 1:00 PM EST, FOX)
The longest-running rivalry begins its 2024 chapter in Week 11 when the Packers visit the Bears in Caleb Williams’ first taste of the matchup, one that has been dominated by the Packers in recent memory. Green Bay has won six straight and 21 of the last 24 meetings. Can Williams change the Bears’ fortunes?
Week 11: Baltimore Ravens at Pittsburgh Steelers (Sunday, November 17, 1:00 PM EST, CBS)
Just like Packers-Bears, this classic rivalry (even though it’s only been around since 1996) sees its first 2024 edition in Week 11.
Week 11: Kansas City Chiefs at Buffalo Bills (Sunday, November 17, 4:25 PM EST, CBS)
The always-exciting Patrick Mahomes vs. Josh Allen matchup in yet another playoff rematch. Last season, Mahomes went into Buffalo and won his first road playoff game. He would win another the following week in Baltimore before completing the repeat. Mahomes returns to Buffalo in Week 17. We may very well see Taylor Swift here as well, as she will have the day off from her Eras Tour stop in Toronto.
Week 11: Houston Texans at Dallas Cowboys (Monday, November 18, 8:15 PM EST, ESPN)
The battle of Texas takes center stage in Week 11 on Monday Night Football.
Week 12: San Francisco 49ers at Green Bay Packers (Sunday, November 24, 4:25 PM EST, FOX)
The Packers nearly pulled a stunner in the NFC Divisional at San Francisco last season but a painful interception ended Green Bay’s hopes of becoming the first No. 7 seed to reach the Championship Game. They’re now a year older and wiser and ready to challenge the reigning NFC kings.
Week 12: Baltimore Ravens at Los Angeles Chargers (Monday, November 25, 8:15 PM EST, ESPN)
It’s the return of the Harbaugh Bowl. Jim Harbaugh is back in the NFL as head coach of the Chargers. He gets to face his brother, John, just days before they get together for Thanksgiving. Does the winner get a bigger piece of pie after dinner?
