Biggest games of the 2024 NFL season's first quarter
Must-watch contest of the 1/4 of the season
The 2024 NFL regular season schedule is out and now we know when our favorite team is playing each week. This year’s schedule features plenty of highlight games you need to tune into.
We’ll have a series of posts here that take a look at the best games for each week of the schedule and we’ll break it down by quarters, with the last group featuring the last six weeks of the season. Let’s start with, what else, the first four weeks of the season, starting with Week 1.:
Week 1: Baltimore Ravens at Kansas City Chiefs (Thursday, Sept. 5, 8:20, NBC)
The NFL always tries to start the season with a bang. It doesn’t get much more exciting than Patrick Mahomes vs. Lamar Jackson. The reigning NFL MVP against the reigning Super Bowl MVP in a rematch of last season’s AFC Championship Game. If the Ravens really want to be taken seriously as a Super Bowl LIX contender, a Week 1 win in Kansas City would make a major statement.
Week 1: Green Bay Packers vs. Philadelphia Eagles in Brazil (Friday, Sept. 6, 8:15, Peacock)
The first-ever NFL game in Brazil (Corinthians Arena, Sao Paulo) sees a key early battle in the NFC between the Packers and the Eagles. Philadelphia loaded up this offseason as they look to get back to the Super Bowl after last season’s major collapse.
Week 1: Los Angeles Rams at Detroit Lions (Sunday, Sept. 8, 8:20, NBC)
The first Sunday Night Football action of the season sees a rematch from last season’s playoffs as the Rams return to Detroit, where their season ended in the Wild Card round. The Lions want to erase the memory of blowing a 24-7 halftime lead in the NFC Championship Game. They’ll get their shot at the 49ers in Week 17 but a win against the Rams starts their path back on the right foot.
Week 1: New York Jets at San Francisco 49ers (Monday, Sept. 9, 8:20, ABC/ESPN)
The Jets are in prime time yet again. Six of their first 11 games are either Sunday night, Monday night or Thursday night. It starts with a trip to the reigning NFC champion 49ers. Oh yeah, and some guy named Aaron Rodgers makes his return following his Week 1 Achilles injury on Monday night last season against the Buffalo Bills.
Week 2: Buffalo Bills at Miami Dolphins (Thursday, Sept. 12, 8:15, Amazon Prime Video)
The first Amazon Prime Video game of 2024 features an early AFC East showdown between the Bills and Dolphins. Miami, incredibly, blew a three-game lead in the division with five weeks left, including a Week 18 loss to the Bills that sent Miami to a frozen Arrowhead Stadium to face the Chiefs. Miami is looking to prove they can hang with the four-time defending division champion Bills. That starts by knocking off Josh Allen and company on September 12.
